A comfortable drive will take you to the town of Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) where you can admire the famous Catherine Palace with its Amber Room.

The Catherine Palace is named after Catherine I, the wife of Peter the Great, who ruled Russia for two years after her husband's death, is a Rococo palace located in the town of Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) 25 km southeast of St. Petersburg. It was the summer residence of the Russian Tsars. Originally a modest two-storey building commissioned by Peter for Catherine in 1717, it was reconstructed by four different architects, before Bartolomeo Rastrelli, Chief Architect of the Imperial Court, was instructed to completely redesign the building on a scale to rival Versailles.

The legendary Amber Room is a world famous chamber decorated in amber panels backed with gold leafs and mirrors, is located in the Catherine Palace. Originally constructed in the 18th century, the Amber Room was dismantled in 1941, by the German troops when they took Tsarskoe Selo, and shipped to Konigsberg. As the Nazi war machine crumbled, the panels were crated up and moved out of danger, but their eventual fate is unknown. Amber Room was recreated in 2003. Before the room was lost, it was considered an "Eighth Wonder of the World".
